Congressman tries to ban cameras at town hallThu. 08.13

Congressman Anthony Weiner (D-NY) recently tried to ban television cameras from a town hall. Again, does this surprise anyone?

Imagine for a moment what the national media outrage would be in a Republican tried to ban television cameras for a town hall on Iraq, social security reform or Bush’s tax cuts?

Umm, i think it would have been something akin to a Die Hard movie.

Check out the video here (sorry the video was not embeddable)

Democrats use fake Docs in town hallsThu. 08.13

Recently, a Texas Democrat represented a young woman as doctor in a town hall. The only problem is that (1) the woman wasn’t a doctor and (2) we found out.

Is anyone surprised? Seems par for the course to me…

Here’s a video of the Democratic Congressman saying she knows the woman as a doctor and the woman saying she has been practicing medicine for four (4) years. Check it out.

Also, be sure to check out the article that broke this story wide open.

Scary: Obamacare is like Post OfficeWed. 08.12

Yesterday, President Obama suggested that if you want to know what Obamacare will look like all you have to do is go to your local Post Office.

During the Presidential Town Hall on health care in New Hampshire, President
Obama compared his proposed government-run health care plan to the U.S. Post Office (I think YIKES is the appropriate word here).

This comparison left me wondering: Has President Obama ever been to a Post Office? If so, why would he make this comparison?

By comparing his health care reform to the U.S. Post Office, President Obama gave some rare candid insight into what government-run health care has in store, most notably waiting lines, disgruntled, unhappy and often times rude bureaucrats and delayed services – all with higher costs and no apology (Again with the YIKES).

Like President Obama said, "…it’s UPS and Fedex that are doing just fine, it is the Post Office that is having problems."

If government-run mail is having problems, think how bad government-run health care will be. Seriously. Stop. And. Think. About. That.

Take a peak at the video of President Obama in his own words.

During every economic downturn local governments usually face budget shortfalls. They cut services, shed staff and unfortunately sometimes raise taxes. But if you live in Canada, they might just cancel your life saving triple bypass.

An article in today’s Vancouver Sun reveals that the city plans to cancel 6,000 neurosurgeries, vascular surgeries and other medically vital procedures in order to save money.

As our own President and Congress attempt to give us government run healthcare just like Canada’s, we need to know exactly what the consequences will be if they’re successful.

Virginia: The Importance of Winning in 2009 & What You Can Do to HelpTue. 08.11

The first Tuesday of November, 2009 the state of Virginia will elect a Governor. Like you, I want the man elected to be Bob McDonnell – the Republican candidate – who, with a clear vision to create jobs and investment in education, will move Virginia forward once again.

But the Governor’s race in Virginia isn’t only important to Virginia, it will likely have national political implications. You see, the Governor’s election in Virginia will probably be painted as a referendum on Obama; and if we win – if Republicans win, we will have the political momentum going into the 2010 mid-term elections. And with enough momentum we can take back the House and counter Obama.

To counter Obama we must take back the House. To take back the House we must win in Virginia. But what must we do to win in Virginia?

We must do what College Republicans are meant to do: elect Republican candidates through dedicated volunteerism – we must go to Virginia and help them elect Bob McDonnell by knocking on doors and making phone calls to get out the vote.

To do this the College Republican National Committee has been working hard, but we need your help. We need you – as chapter chair, state chair or average College Republican – to talk to other College Republicans and conservative students about traveling to Virginia to help elect Bob McDonnell and create the momentum necessary to take back the House in 2010. Can we count on you?

Below you will find a timeline of our plan to win in Virginia. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me at jhagen@crnc.org.

____________

August 24th: Most schools begin school this week. Recruiting must start strong. Please let every new member your clubs sign up know about the opportunity to participate in the Virginia elections.

August 25th: We will be working to set up a conference call for this date with a high ranking Republican official to kick off the Virginia recruitment and deployment program.

August 31st: By this date, the CRNC hopes to have an online landing page set up where people can quickly and easily sign up for the Virginia deployment project.

September 5th: States submit the first the results of the first week’s recruitment in order to give the CRNC an idea on the progress of recruitment.

September 12th: States submit second update on recruitment for deployment.

October 1st: Final update due from states on potential attendance for deployment.

October 10th: Hard numbers due from the states. Based on these numbers, the CRNC will reserve buses and hotels.

October 11th-31st: CRNC will work with states to make sure they meet submitted hard number counts, and will complete all extra logistical work.

November 1st-5th: Deployment operation takes place helping to lead to a resounding victory for Bob McDonnell.

November 12th: Any available incentives will be paid out to the states by this date.

Obamacare: Putting a price on lifeMon. 08.10

President Obama is currently breaking congressional arms to pass British styled, socialistic health care where a life has been determined to be worth only a little more than $22,000.

Let me ask you, how much do you think your life is worth?

What I saw in IowaMon. 08.10

On August 1-3, the Iowa and Wisconsin College Republicans hosted a chapter training in which the Indiana and Missouri College Republicans also participated. I attended, and what I saw was something remarkable.

What I saw was, in a word, togetherness.

At first, this may not seem like all that great a thing, but ask anyone who has ever played sports and subsequently stopped what they miss most and 9 out of 10 times its the camaraderie with their teammates. Its the togetherness.

Fellowship with others is a driving force to organizational success, whether its sports or political organizations, and one which deserves to be fostered within College Republicans. I mean, why do you think “team chemistry” gets so much hype on ESPN?

What I saw was several state federations coming together in the recognition that, as an organization, we are bigger than just one state federation or another, and that only by uniting can we meet our full potential.

What I saw was a shining example of something I have been saying for years: the more interconnected College Republicans are, the more effective they become.

Finally, what I saw was yet another, albeit small, step forward in a nationwide effort to make the College Republicans a meaningful part of the life of the average Republican and conservative student as we attempt to win the youth vote once again.

I’ve always been proud to be a College Republican, but I was a little more proud that weekend, because what I saw in Iowa was something that was worth seeing.
