Time to Recruit!Mon. 08.24

Posted by: admin

The Fall Semester starts this week for most schools, and with it, the single most important recruiting time of the year for College Republicans.  With thousands of new Freshman stepping onto campus for the first time, there will never be a better opportunity to bring in new members and leaders this school year.

If you are a College Republican, make sure to spend the next few weeks recruiting aggressively.  Show up to club fairs and Freshman orientations.  Set up a table in campus common areas and aggressively promote our organization to potential new members.  Get on Facebook and find those that identify themselves as Conservatives and invite them to your events and meetings.  With so much at stake this fall and next year, it is more important than ever that every college student know about the opportunity to be a part of our organization.

As you recruit, be sure to let us know what you’re hearing on the ground, and what we at the CRNC can be doing to help your efforts.  In the meantime we’d like you to let us know how recruitment is going.  Send us your pictures, and let us know about your success stories so we can highlight them.

With so many great opportunities to participate in elections, and so many important issues to talk about on campus, I’ve never been more excited to be a College Republican and I hope you feel the same way.

To Victory!

College Republican Task ForceMon. 08.24

Posted by: admin

The College Republican Task Force is a team of college-aged political operatives dedicated to working for a Republican victory in the 2009 Virginia Governor’s Race.

Members of the Task Force understand that victory in Virginia is critically important because it will further hasten the swinging of the political pendulum back in favor of Republicans in time for the 2010 mid-term Congressional elections.

To achieve victory, members of this Task Force will travel by bus to Virginia during the final days of the campaign (Oct. 29/30 – Nov. 3/4) to work tirelessly to get out the vote for Republican candidate Bob McDonnell by knocking on doors and making phone calls, and to provide the energy, vitality and enthusiasm for which College Republicans are widely known.

For members of this Task Force, travel, accommodation and meal expenses will by paid for by the College Republican National Committee. All you have to do is commit yourself to victory. Can we count on your commitment? Are you prepared to join us in turning the corner on defeat and reinvigorating the Republican Party with victory?

If you are interested in working for victory in Virginia, sign up here by Oct. 10 to ensure your spot on the Task Force.

But don’t stop there. For this Task Force to succeed we need leaders and we are counting on people like you. We need you to step up. We need you to become a Task Force Team Leader by signing-up five (5) of your friends who, like you, are committed to victory in Virginia. If you sign-up five (5) friends who travel to Virginia, you will receive a special College Republican Task Force Team Leader t-shirt and invitation to a Team Leader only conference call.

It is only through your commitment, dedication and leadership that victory in Virginia will be achieved, that a new day for the Republican Party will come and a better and brighter future for America can be had. Are you up to the challenge?

Tell Us Your Health Care Horror StoryThu. 08.20

Posted by: admin

We as Americans are so used to living in a nation with the best health care in the world that some of us have trouble imagining anything else. That’s why some believe that the health care “reform” Democrats are proposing will yield the same quality of care we receive now, only it will be “free.” But the horror stories of government-run health care in countries like Britain and Canada may become our reality if the Democrats in Congress are able to pass their health care legislation.

Do you or someone you know have a health care horror story to tell? Email us at team@crnc.org or comment on our blog below.

There is one major problem with this concept that our quality of care will remain the same under the “free” health care system the Democrats are considering. Mainly, the quality of our health care will not remain the same – it will inevitably lead to horror-story situations that would today be considered unthinkable by many Americans.

Take, for instance, bladder cancer patients in Quebec. They are dying unnecessarily because of increasing delays in treatment. As Armen Aprikian, chief urologist of the McGill University Health Centre, explained, “The death rate among patients stuck waiting 12 weeks or longer for surgery jumped by 20 percent from 1990 to 2002.”

And in the UK, a Member of Parliament recently warned that 100 elderly people across the UK lose their sight needlessly each week because of the “lottery” system in place.

These stories may sound too bad to be true, but these are just two examples of what happens under government-run health care. And if the Democrats’ health care plan becomes law, this is what you, your family and your friends with have to live with.

Do you have a health care horror story to share? Email us at team@crnc.org or comment on our blog below.

Market-Option: CRNC LogoTue. 08.18

Posted by: admin

So with all this talk about "public options" and "co-ops" that are really just other words for "Socialist takeover of Grandma’s Medicine Cabinet" we here at the CRNC decided that we’d create a more market-friendly "public option" of our own.

Here’s the plan: we’re thinking of changing our logo and would like CRs, their tech-savvy moms and dads, and just about anyone else who’d like to try and design a new logo for us to do so and send your logo designs to me at tjardon@crnc.org.

How is this more capitalist than long lines and cancelled surgeries you ask?  We will choose the best 3 submitted designs and give each winning designer $150 – cash.  We then plan to test those three logos against our current logo and a fifth, super-secret design that we’ve come up with on our free time.  So if you see any awesome Facebook Ads or receive any e-mail or mail with a logo you’ve never seen before, don’t cry, we’ll settle all the craziness at the National Board Meeting this November in Universal Studios, Orlando.

Here’s the best part: if the National Board chooses one of the 3 "market options," the winning logo designer will win $500 more - up to $650 total for the winning designer.

The deadline for submitting your designs is THIS Friday, August 21, 2009 at Midnight.  So put aside all your first-day reading, take your home-made hangover remedies, and kick-off the school year right with $150 to spend on…books.

Socialized Medicine: Using Postal Codes To Make Health Care DecisionsMon. 08.17

Posted by: admin

Meet Brian Turner. Brian is a 74 year old resident of Oaks Green Mount, Rastrick, Canada.  He suffers from macular degeneration in his left eye.

He went blind in one
eye after the Brisith government denied his request for the drug Avastin. The government told
Brian and his family that treatment would only be offered if his second
eye became affected and complete blindness was a risk.

Brian has also
learned that British socialized health insurance coverage for Avastin treatment is not
universal across the United Kingdom, with some patients receiving
treatment while other are denied because of the postal code them live
in.

Awesome. Socialized medicine: where postal codes, not doctors, make health care decisions.

Fighting over ToastFri. 08.14

Posted by: admin

This is Brian Lee Crowley. Brian is a resident of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.

According to Brian, the Canadian health care system, which we all know is socialized, suffers from several critical and potentially fatal problems, such as long wait times, poor productivity, fiscal irresponsibility and a bureaucratic culture that pathologically fails to live up to its promises.

In one particularly interesting part of the testimonial, Brian talks about how in a provincial election years back, the political parties spent the whole election fighting over the quality of toast – yes toasted, buttered bread – in hospitals. No joke.

Is this the vision you have of America and of politics? Is this the bright future full of change that President Obama promised?

Watch what Brian has to say below.

The Next Governor of VirginiaThu. 08.13

Posted by: admin

Take a minute to check out the new website of Republican Virginia gubernatorial candidate Bob McDonnell.

When I checked out the website, my first reaction was: "He just looks like a man who is going to win. He just looks like the next Governor of Virginia."

But as much as he may look like the next Governor of Virginia, however, he has not crossed the finish line yet. What Bob needs is the help of College Republicans coast-to-coast to get out the vote for his message of jobs, lower taxes and less government. So, keep October 29 – November 3 open, because we are going to Virginia to put a commonsense conservative back in charge of that state for the first time in a long time.
