Live-Twitter WinnersTue. 06.30

Posted by:

One week ago today, President Obama, in very Cpt. Jack Sparrow like fashion, commandeered ABC to promote government-run health care.

While he dodged question after question like he was doing the peg-legged jig and struggled to explain even the core planks of his plan, hundreds of College Republicans had commandeered something of their own: Twitter.

In a live-Twitter broadside, hundreds of College Republicans logged-on and tuned in to present reasoned and fact-driven arguments against President Obama’s bombardment of the private sector through his government-run plan and to discuss an alternative: a Republican solution based on time tested free market principles.

To encourage participation, the tweeters of the top three tweets would receive a $25 iTunes gift card. The winners have been selected and I am honored to share them with you now.

The tweetest tweet

By Tyler Verry of Duluth, MN

Mcaid and Mcare are the single biggest drivers of the federal deficit and debt. So, the only logical conclusion is make it bigger.

Salient point to say the least. Anyone understand why we should model health care reform off of two already failing programs?

To tell you a little bit about Tyler. He was born and raised in Minnesota, becoming politically aware junior year of
high school after attending the American Legion Boys’ state. In 2004, he converted his parents, getting them to vote for George W. Bush. Tyler joined the College Republicans his freshman year, taking over the Chairmanship of an inactive chapter. Working hard, he built up the group up to
several hundred members. His worked paid off as, during the 2008 campaign, his chapter was the top performer for several weeks.

 A pretty sweet tweet

By Mike Peters of Marlboro, NJ

Obama incorrectly predicted unemployment after the stimulus. Why should we believe his health care math is any better?

Good point. Anyone remember "fuzzy" math?

Now, for a bit about Michael. Michael is a recent graduate of The College of New Jersey, where he was Secretary of the TCNJ College Republicans. Michael has been an active member of the New Jersey College Republicans for the last 4 years and is looking forward to helping New Jersey elect Christopher Christie as New Jersey’s first Republican Governor since 1997. Michael will be attending Brooklyn Law School in the fall.

Hard to beat that tweet

By Marissa Clarin of Fargo, ND

I have Rx 4 AMERICA.. it is called PARENTING, personal responsibility, & keeping government out of my life thanks

Unlike the ABC special, this sounds like a prescription for Amercia that I can believe in!

Last but not least, Marissa is a North Dakota State University student living in Fargo, ND. In 2011, she will graduate with a PharmD and she plans to spend her life working as a pharmacist in North Dakota, perhaps pursuing a future in politics. Many people don’t know this about Marissa, but she spent her first 18 years in Minnesota, but fell in love with North Dakota shortly after moving there.

With Marissa, everyone wants to know: why North Dakota? And her answer is always: it’s virtually a conservative’s paradise; Republican controlled state government, billion dollar surplus and low taxes! North Dakota is pretty much the nation’s best-kept secret, if you’re looking for a red state.

Aside from being a recovering Minnesotan, Marissa enjoys being the chair of the North Dakota College Republicans, getting involved in local politics, working as a pharmacy intern, and playing with her basset hound Winston.

Obamacare Protest: “The Change We Don’t Need”Thu. 06.25

Posted by:

Last night President Barack Obama took over the ABC network for an hour and half unveiling his “public option” for the American people. Republicans all over the country were outraged with the fact that the “American Broadcasting Company” refused to allow the RNC to purchase any advertising time during the 90 minute infomercial.

While the President sat comfortably inside the White House explaining how the government would yet again take over another private industry, young students from all over the D.C area came together and made sure their voices were heard.

At 8:30 last night, Chairman Zack Howell and approximately 25 other young enthusiastic Republicans led a peaceful, but extremely powerful protest. Although they were upset with the bias of the media, these young leaders would not be discouraged. They chanted and held signs such as "We Support Better Solutions" and "ObamaCare is No Care At All".

You can see some pictures from the protest below.

In addition, the group handed out fliers with facts about the pending plan and how it would negatively impact the future. The activity stimulated debates amongst passersby and the CRs were even praised by some bystanders for their knowledge and activism in the issue.

Overall the night was viewed as a major success. In the future, Zach and the rest of the CRNC plan on holding more events similar to this one.

Ready to help stop a Washington take-over of our health care?Wed. 06.24

The media can’t say enough good things about Barack Obama’s health care plan. ABC is even turning their network over tonight to the Obama Administration for what amounts to an hour long cheerleading session for socialized medicine, while no Republicans will even be allowed to buy an advertisement on the show to get out their point of view.

Are you ready to help stop a Washington take-over of our health care? College Republicans are going to make our voice heard and protest the Obama/ABC lovefest, and so can you.

Here are some immediate actions you can take to help stop ObamaCare:

1. If you’re in the D.C. area, join us at 8:30 PM (EDT) tonight in front of the White House as we protest President Obama’s prime-time debut and plans to socialize our health care. Bring a friend and a sign! If you have any questions, email Alex Schriver at aschriver@crnc.org.

2. President Obama’s special will air at 10 PM (EDT). During the propaganda-filled show, join the live conversation on Twitter by using #crnc with your tweets. The writers of the three most insightful tweets, will get a $25 iTunes gift card from the CRNC. Be sure to use #crnc.

3. We’ll be updating our blog throughout the night with pictures from our protest at the White House and reactions from the ABC special. Be sure to check back and add your two cents!

4. Consider using #obamercial and #handsoff (my health care) in your tweets, too.

Obama’s Healthcare Infomercial – Tweet & Win $25 iTunes Card!Tue. 06.23

Posted by:

As many of you know, on
Wednesday, June 24th, ABC has turned over an hour of prime-time
programming to President Obama to promote his government healthcare program.
This “infomercial” starts at 10pm (Eastern) live from the White House. ABC has
rejected the RNC’s requests to counter the President’s debate and has turned
down all commercials that oppose a democrat, liberal solution.

Therefore, to make sure
our voices of opposition are heard, College Republicans from the DC area will
be taking part in a demonstration outside the White House. College Republicans
are joining forces to shine a light on the weaknesses and high-cost of a
government run option.

Tomorrow night, however,
College Republicans from across the country can take place in the debate
regardless of location. We are encouraging you to join us on Twitter and let us
know what you and fellow young conservatives think about the policies the President
is promoting regarding health care. Simply use the #CRNC hashtag with your
posts which will show up on the CRNC website’s Twitter-feed. We’ll use your
thoughts, quotes, and opinions for future healthcare related projects.

The writers of the three
most insightful quotes and opinions that point out the inadequacies of
government run healthcare will receive a $25 iTunes gift card from the CRNC.

All tweets must be
submitted by midnight (Pacific) Thursday, June 25th and must use the
#CRNC hashtag to qualify. Please spread the word and take part in the
discussion LIVE with College Republicans across the country!
